The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar in a high-profile corruption case after a businessman accused him of demanding a hefty bribe to settle an inquiry.

CBI officials conducted extensive searches at Bhullar’s residence and other premises linked to him, recovering crores in unaccounted cash, property-related documents, and digital evidence. The seizure has exposed what investigators describe as a “massive corruption nexus” involving misuse of official power.
Sources said the operation was launched after the businessman filed a formal complaint, prompting the CBI to set up a trap and gather material proof. Following the raid, Bhullar was taken into custody and booked under multiple sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Officials are verifying the source of the seized money and investigating whether other officers or private parties were involved in the bribery network. The CBI may also initiate a disproportionate assets inquiry against the DIG.
Bhullar will be produced before a CBI court for remand and custodial interrogation. Meanwhile, the Punjab Police and the state government have withheld comments, citing the ongoing investigation.
This arrest adds to a growing list of corruption cases involving senior police officials across India, raising renewed concerns over integrity and oversight within law enforcement agencies.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) executed a major anti‑corruption operation on Thursday, arresting DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar (2009‑batch IPS), posted in the Ropar Range of the Punjab Police, in a bribery case.
