Jaipur, July 10, 2025:
Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (Jaipur Discom) has achieved a significant milestone with three of its circles—Dausa, JPDCL (North), and Jhalawar—successfully replacing 100% of their defective electricity meters. As of July 1, 2025, all sub-divisions under these circles have reported zero defective meters.
To recognize this achievement, Principal Secretary (Energy) Shri Ajitabh Sharma presented official certificates declaring these circles as 'Zero Defective Meter Circles' during a felicitation ceremony held at Vidyut Bhawan on Thursday.
Congratulating the engineers of the three circles, Shri Sharma emphasized the importance of extending similar efforts across other Jaipur Discom circles as well as Jodhpur and Ajmer discoms. He directed the Discoms Chairperson to convene a meeting with the Managing Directors of the other distribution companies to prepare a detailed action plan for eliminating defective meters across Rajasthan.
Impact of Defective Meters:
Defective meters significantly impact Discom revenue. If a meter remains faulty for over two months, the consumer is entitled to a 5% rebate on electricity charges. Additionally, billing has to be done based on average consumption, which leads to complaints if actual usage is lower and revenue loss if actual consumption is higher. Moreover, accurate distribution loss assessment becomes impossible without precise consumption data.
Chairperson of Discoms, Ms. Aarti Dogra, had earlier issued directions during review meetings, instructing Superintending Engineers to eliminate the backlog of defective meters in their circles. Expressing concern over the adverse impact on revenue recovery, she had emphasized that no defective meter case should remain unresolved beyond two months. These joint efforts have yielded positive results, as demonstrated by the three recognized circles.
Circle-wise Achievement:
Dausa Circle: Replaced 9,139 defective meters between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025.
JPDCL North: Replaced 17,885 meters between January 1 and June 30, 2025.
Jhalawar Circle: Replaced 1,585 meters across categories between January 1 and June 30, 2025.
Certificates were received by Executive Engineer Shri K.L. Barodia (Jhalawar), Superintending Engineer Shri Rajesh Gupta (JPDCL North), and Superintending Engineer Shri M.L. Meena (Dausa).
