7 July, 2026, Jakarta: “We are going to establish a campus of India's prestigious management institute, IIM Bangalore, in Indonesia, which will greatly benefit the youth across the entire ASEAN region”. With this announcement, made during a joint press statement with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta on 7 July 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a landmark new chapter in IIM Bangalore's global engagement and in the growing strategic partnership between India and Indonesia.
Speaking after bilateral talks, the Prime Minister noted that the two countries had signed a significant agreement to strengthen technological cooperation among their youth in areas such as artificial intelligence, telecommunications and Digital Public Infrastructure, along with stronger collaboration between their startup ecosystems. He described the initiatives as part of a "golden chapter" in India–Indonesia relations that would have a lasting impact on the 21st century.
The proposed IIMB campus in Indonesia represents a significant step in advancing educational collaboration between the two countries and supports a shared commitment to developing future-ready leadership talent for the region. The campus will serve learners from Indonesia and the wider ASEAN region and is expected to strengthen academic exchange, executive education and capacity building by extending IIM Bangalore's distinctive approach to management education to international learners.
The announcement builds on the recently signed MoU between IIM Bangalore and the Singhasari Special Economic Zone (SEZ), where the international campus is expected to be located. The agreement was signed on 6th July at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs in Jakarta in the presence of Mr. Susiwijono Moegiarso, Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs; H.E. Sandeep Chakravorty, Ambassador of India to Indonesia; Prof. U Dinesh Kumar, Director-in-charge, IIM Bangalore; KRAT David Santoso, Chief Executive Officer, SEZ Singhasari; and Prof. Jitamitra Desai, Professor and Member, Board of Governors, IIM Bangalore.
IIMB will execute its offerings in two phases, beginning with short-duration executive education programs (EEPs) in Phase 1, followed by the degree-granting programs in Phase 2.
Prof. U. Dinesh Kumar stated that this partnership will create a significant impact by developing a leadership pool that will lead not only companies in Indonesia but also global corporations.
At the signing event, Prof. Desai stated, “With our significant strength in management education and research, IIMB is well positioned to deliver high-quality, high-reputation management programs and make Indonesia a global hub in business education”. “We believe that this program will lead to significantly improved employment opportunities for Indonesian citizens and expatriates alike and push the envelope in making the Global South region the preferred destination for both quality education and business leadership”, he added.
The IIMB (Singhasari) campus in Indonesia will offer EEPs designed for senior leaders and professionals preparing for leadership roles. Its curriculum will combine core management disciplines with future-focused areas such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation, global supply chains, climate and sustainability and healthcare. The initiative envisions the strengthening of research collaborations, faculty development, consulting engagements and policy partnerships while expanding opportunities for student exchanges and industry engagement across Indonesia and the wider ASEAN region.
As the designated nodal agency for management education in Swayam and a global leader in online education, participants in Indonesia will have access to IIMB’s repository of massive open online courses (MOOCs) in addition to its in-class offerings.
