“Divya Kala Shakti” Cultural Event Highlights Ability in Disability
The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, witnessed special cultural performances by Divyang children at the event “Divya Kala Shakti – Witnessing Ability in Disability”, organised by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment at the G.M.C. Balayogi Auditorium, Parliament Library Building.
The event was attended by several top constitutional dignitaries including the Vice President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla, along with Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawarchand Gehlot.
The programme showcased performances by around 175 artistes with disabilities from across India, representing diverse categories including visual, hearing, physical, intellectual, autism, and multiple disabilities. The children were trained and mentored through professional choreography and structured rehearsals, highlighting their artistic capability and discipline.
The event was fully made accessible with special arrangements for persons with disabilities, including stage modifications, sound and lighting support, and inclusive participation. It was anchored by visually impaired youth, reinforcing the theme of accessibility and empowerment.
The President interacted with participants and appreciated their performances, emphasizing the importance of recognising the rights, skills, and potential of Divyang individuals and spreading awareness about inclusion across the country.
The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, continues to implement rehabilitation, education, and awareness programmes through national institutions and schemes aimed at supporting persons with disabilities across India.
