Atishi is set to become Delhi's new Chief Minister, following a proposal made by Arvind Kejriwal himself before the legislators. After spending several months in jail due to an alleged liquor scam, Kejriwal announced his resignation on Sunday. He stated that he will not return to the Chief Minister's seat until he wins an election and receives a certificate of honesty from the public.
Political activity in Delhi has intensified since Kejriwal's release from jail. On Sunday (September 15), Kejriwal declared that he would resign from his position two days later. This decision was formalized in a meeting of the legislative party on Tuesday (September 17), during which it was decided that Atishi will take over as Chief Minister until the next assembly election.
Prior to the legislative party meeting, a PAC meeting was held at the Delhi Chief Minister’s residence on Monday (September 16), attended by AAP leaders including Manish Sisodia, Raghav Chadha, and Atishi. Various potential candidates were discussed, and the list was presented at the legislative party meeting.
During his resignation announcement, Kejriwal expressed confidence in the people of Delhi, stating that if the public considers him honest, they will reelect him in the upcoming assembly elections. He will only return to the Chief Minister’s position after that.
Saurabh Bharadwaj's Statement
AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj commented on the new Chief Minister, stating that it does not matter who holds the position, as the mandate was for Arvind Kejriwal. He emphasized that Kejriwal will not return to the Chief Minister's seat until the public reaffirms their support through elections. In the meantime, someone from the party will take on the role.
BJP's Strategy
While Arvind Kejriwal has made a strategic move by resigning from the Chief Minister’s position, the BJP has also prepared its strategy for Delhi. The party recognizes that Kejriwal’s resignation might garner sympathy from the public. As a counter, the BJP plans to focus on corruption issues and campaign on the streets of Delhi.
