In a shocking incident, Baba Siddique, former Maharashtra minister and senior leader of Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), was fatally shot by three unidentified assailants in Bandra East, Mumbai, on Saturday evening. Siddique was rushed to Lilavati Hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
The attack occurred outside the office of his son, MLA Zeeshan Siddique, near Colgate Ground in Nirmal Nagar. Police confirmed that two to three rounds were fired, and a 9.9 mm pistol was used, indicating a possible contract killing. Despite being under 'Y' category security, Siddique had received a death threat just 15 days before the incident.
Mumbai Police have formed five teams to investigate, with the Boshnoi gang angle being explored. Two suspects have been arrested—one from Haryana and another from Uttar Pradesh, as Chief Minister Eknath Shinde vowed to fast-track the case.
