Bengaluru/Mumbai, November 23rd, 2024: The prestigious National Metallurgist Awards (NMA) were presented here today by Shri H. D. Kumaraswamy, Hon'ble Minister of Steel and Heavy Industries, on the second day of the ongoing 78th Annual Technical Meet (ATM) of the Indian Institute of Metals (IIM).
Among the prominent awardees, Shri Shashi Shekhar Mohanty, CEO & MD of Essar Minmet Ltd. and former Director (Technical) at SAIL, was honoured with the prestigious ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ by Shri H. D. Kumaraswamy, in the presence of Shri Sajjan Jindal, President of IIM and Chairman, JSW Group, and other dignitaries.
The National Metallurgist Awards celebrate excellence in metallurgy and allied fields, recognizing distinguished individuals for their contributions in Lifetime Achievement, National Metallurgists, R&D in Iron and Steel, and Young Metallurgist in Environmental Science and Metal Science categories.

The three-day marquee event is being held at the GKVK campus of the Dr Babu Rajendra Prasad International Convention Centre in Bengaluru, from November 20–22, 2024. It was inaugurated on Wednesday by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka and has since maintained a vibrant pace of activities and engagements.
In addition to the awards ceremony, the second day of IIM-ATM 2024 featured IIM Memorial Lectures and hundreds of Technical Sessions, which brought together SMEs, metallurgists, and steel scientists to engage with over 1,700 delegates. These discussions delved into the latest advancements in metallurgy, material sciences, and sustainable manufacturing technologies.
The event, organized by JSW Steel in partnership with the Ministry of Steel and the IIM chapters of Vijayanagar, Bangalore, Dolvi, Salem, and Kolkata (Headquarters of IIM), continues to unite national and international experts to exchange knowledge, explore innovations, and shape the future of the metals and materials industry.
