Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the first Mann Ki Baat address of 2026, praised the country’s youth and described public resolve (jan-sankalp) as India’s greatest strength. Highlighting the 10-year journey of Startup India, he said India has today emerged as the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem.
Recalling the launch of Startup India in January 2016, the Prime Minister said the initiative began as a modest but significant step for the future of the country. “Ten years ago, we started an important journey. Even if it seemed small at the time, it was crucial for the young generation and the future of the nation. This journey of Startup India has our young people as its real heroes,” he said.
PM Modi noted that India’s startup ecosystem has moved beyond conventional thinking and is now working in areas that were difficult to imagine a decade ago. He pointed out that Indian startups are playing an active role in artificial intelligence, space technology, nuclear energy, semiconductors, mobility, green hydrogen, and biotechnology.
Saluting young innovators, the Prime Minister said he deeply admired all those who are associated with startups or aspire to launch their own ventures. “I salute every young individual who is contributing to or dreaming of building a startup,” he said.
Addressing citizens, especially those linked with industry and startups, PM Modi emphasized that India’s rapidly growing economy has attracted global attention. He said this progress also brings greater responsibility. “At a time when the world is watching India, our biggest responsibility is to focus on quality. This year, we must prioritize quality with full commitment,” he said.
The Prime Minister reiterated that collective determination, innovation, and quality-driven growth will be key pillars in India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation.
