In a major setback for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), several of its senior leaders have faced defeat in the Delhi Assembly by-elections. Former Deputy Chief Minister and senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia has lost the election from the Jangpura constituency by a narrow margin of just 869 votes.
Manish Sisodia had changed his seat this time, moving away from Patparganj, where he had won three consecutive elections in 2013, 2015, and 2020. However, the move did not work in his favor. His candidacy made Jangpura a high-profile seat in this election.
Sisodia was defeated by BJP candidate Tarvinder Singh Marwah, who secured 31,593 votes, while Sisodia managed 30,724 votes. Congress had fielded former Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Mayor Farhad Suri, who came in third with 6,551 votes.
