Nashik: A 28-year-old man allegedly died by suicide on Wednesday evening after suffering significant losses in the stock market. The victim, identified as Rajendra Kolhe, sustained 90% burns after setting himself on fire and succumbed to his injuries later that night at the district government hospital.
According to police reports, Kolhe hailed from Vitai in Chandwad taluka and had moved to Nashik for work. He was initially employed at a private investment company but later switched to a private bank in Myco Circle. Instead of sending money to his parents in the village, he invested heavily in the stock market, accumulating losses of approximately ₹16 lakh.
The financial setback left him deeply distressed, as he also owed money to several people. On Wednesday, a public holiday due to the Mahashivratri festival, Kolhe visited the Trimbakeshwar temple. While returning in the evening, he stopped near Jyoti Vidyalaya in Pimpalgaon Bahula, poured petrol on himself, and set himself ablaze while sitting on his bike.
Villagers who witnessed the incident immediately informed the Satpur police. By the time authorities arrived, Kolhe had sustained severe burns, and his bike was completely destroyed. The police called for an ambulance, but when it failed to arrive even after an hour, they transported him to the district hospital using a police vehicle with the help of locals.
Despite medical efforts, Kolhe succumbed to his injuries late at night. The Satpur police station has registered a case and is conducting further investigations.
