Women tennis team of Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) won the silver medal in the All-India University (AIU) Zonal Inter-University women’s tennis championship of North Zone organized at DCRUST University, Murthal from 10th November 2022 to 15th November 2022.
National tennis players, Deepshikha Saw from the MBA (EFB) Batch of 2021-23, Shefali Arora from the MBA (FT) Batch of 2022-24, and Jigyasa Sharma from Bachelors of Biotechnology (3rd year) were part of the JMI team.
In the quarter final, Jamia defeated Lucknow University by 2-0. Deepshikha Saw won 8-3 and Shefali Arora won 8-0, and qualified for All India Inter University and Khelo India University Games.
In the semi- final, JMI defeated Panjab University, Chandigarh by 2-0. Deepshikha Saw defeated Harnoor Kaur Sindhu 6-0, 7-6(8-6) and Shefali Arora defeated Shamita Yadav 6-2, 6-1.
The team played the final against Delhi University. Deepshikha lost 3-6, 1-6 against Kashish Bhatia and Shefali lost against Jagmeet Kaur with a score line of 3-6,1-6. They secured the second position and won the silver medal.
