Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) is proud to announce that its students have demonstrated exceptional talent at the Senior Nationals Trials, held on 28th and 29th November 2024 at Yamuna Sports Complex, Karkardooma. Two players of the university have been selected to represent Delhi in the prestigious 44th Senior National Archery Tournament, scheduled from December 15, 2024 in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.
Mr. Dhruv Bagga, a first semester MBA student from the Department of Management Studies, and a gold medalist at both SGFI and Junior National levels, achieved remarkable scores of 662/720 on Day 1 and 664/720 on Day 2 in the Recurve event, securing 1st rank among participants. Mr. Abhishek Kumar, a first semester undergraduate student from the Department of Tourism & Hospitality Management and a Sub -Junior National Gold Medalist in the Indian event, recorded a score of 611/720, securing the 3rd rank and qualifying for the Nationals. Furthermore, Ms. Subbiksha V.K., who is currently competing in the Compound event, is undergoing her trials, and the university wishes her the best of luck in her endeavors.
Vice Chancellor of JMI, Professor Mazhar Asif and Registrar, Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi expressed their appreciation and extended their congratulations to those who qualified for the National event.
Prof. Nafis Ahmad, Hony. Director of Games & Sports at JMI, expressed his appreciation by stating “We also acknowledge the dedication and talent displayed by all our athletes who represented the university. We are optimistic that they will continue to bring us pride in the times ahead.”
The Deputy Director, Games & Sports, Dr. Mohammad Abid, along with the President of the Archery Club at JMI, Dr. Arunesh Kumar Singh, extended their congratulations to the individuals for qualifying for the Nationals and offered their best wishes for the upcoming events.
