New Delhi, July 10: The Horticulture Department of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) launched a Plantation Drive today as part of ‘एक पेड़ मां के नाम- Plant 4 Mother’ campaign initiated by Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi on the occasion of World Environment Day on 5th June, 2024.
The campaign began with the planting of a sapling by Prof. Shakeel Ahmad, Offg. Vice Chancellor, JMI in the green area behind the CIT Building of the university campus. Mr. M. Naseem Haider, Officiating Registrar, JMI, teachers and non-teaching staff of the university also planted trees in large numbers. A total of 1500 saplings will be planted in the first phase of the campaign while another 1500 saplings will be planted in the second phase next month. The campaign was supervised by Dr. Bharat Bhushan, Horticulturist, Department of Horticulture, JMI. He said that the trees were planted following the Miyawaki Plantation Technique of Japan which is helpful in establishing dense urban forests in limited spaces.
Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has launched 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' Campaign on the occasion of World Environment Day. He planted a Peepal tree at Buddha Jayanti Park in Delhi and urged all to contribute in making our planet better. He informed that in the last decade, India has undertaken numerous collective efforts which have led to increased forest cover across the nation. This is great for our quest towards sustainable development, Shri Modi added further.
