New Delhi, July 5: Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), a NAAC A++ Accredited Central University, has expanded its educational offerings by signing an agreement with the Directorate General Resettlement (DGR), Ministry of Defence, Government of India. The agreement aims to provide training courses to personnel and officers associated with the Defence sector.
The agreement was signed on 3rd July, 2024 at the Vice Chancellor's office, JMI.The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. M. Nasim Haider, Offg. Registrar of JMI, and Col. Jaideep Singh, Joint Director (Training) from DGR, Ministry of Defence, New Delhi in the presence of Prof. Mohammad Shakeel, Offg. Vice-Chancellor, JMI. Also present were Prof. Veera Gupta, Director & Dr. Khalid Raza, Dy. Director of Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), JMI, Prof. Sara Begum, Dean of Faculty of Education, JMI, Dr. Arshad Ikram Ahmad, Head of Department of Educational Studies, JMI, Prof. Shibu John, Head, Department of Hospital Management and Hospice Studies, JMI and other senior officials from the university.
Under the memorandum, JMI will offer Resettlement Courses tailored for Service Personnel, including Officers, JCOs, ORs, and their widows, whether currently serving or retired. These are diploma and certificate courses ranging from three months to six months in duration. The agreement between JMI and DGR signifies a commitment to academic collaboration, fostering the academic and technical advancement of defense personnel and officers.
Prof. Mohammad Shakeel, Offg. Vice-Chancellor of JMI, emphasized the university's pride in partnering with DGR, an organization that plays a crucial role in safeguarding national boundaries and supporting defense operations. He highlighted the potential for mutual benefit through joint collaborative projects, where DGR can share its expertise with JMI students while benefiting from the university's resources and capabilities. He expressed his commitment to supporting defense personnel through knowledge generation and research to enhance their academic and training programs.
The Resettlement Courses provided by JMI will enable defence personnel who retire early from service to embark on a second career in national life.
Col. Jaideep Singh from DGR expressed his appreciation for the historic collaboration with JMI, recognizing the university's distinguished history in nation-building and its growing reputation for academic excellence. He thanked Jamia for its proactive approach in making this collaboration possible under the leadership of Prof. Mohammad Shakeel, Offg. Vice-Chancellor of JMI.
