New Delhi, March 12: The Department of Economics, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), in its quest to contribute to the society, organized several skill development workshops free of cost over the last couple of years. The most recent workshop was on "Excel as a Tool for Research Enhancement", for PhD students. It was organized under the aegis of the Subject Association of Department of Economics.
Prof Asheref Illiyan, Head, Department of Economics, JMI welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of Excel software for data management, processing and basic to advance level quantitative analysis. He observed that despite its utility most the students have limited knowledge or lack of awareness on the uses of Excel. The purpose of this workshop is to fill that gap. He thanked Prof. Moonnis Shakeel, the organizing secretary and resource person of the workshop for coming forward and organizing this important workshop for the benefit of research scholars.
Prof .Moonis started the hands-on session explaining how the students can effectively use excel to enhance their efficiency in research. The workshop covered various topics such as keyboard shortcuts for effective and efficient navigation, chartless visualizations, chart creation etc. Close to 80 PhD scholars registered for the workshop. The participants came from various Departments/Centers of JMI such as Faculty of Architecture, Political Science, Educational Studies, International Studies, Economics and also from Delhi University, Rajasthan University etc. The participants appreciated the content and delivery style of the workshop. The workshop ended with a positive note and participants gave positive feedback. The Department of Economics will continue to organize such skill development workshops in future also.
