As Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) is observing Anti-Ragging Week from 12th -18th August, 2024, the Subject Association, Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Basic Sciences, has organized a talk on the Topic “Maintenance of Discipline and Prevention on Ragging in the University” by Prof. Mohammad Asad Malik, Faculty of Law, JMI on Tuesday, 13th August, 2024 in the Seminar Hall. The main aim of the talk was to sensitize students and the faculty members about the mal effect of ragging on students. The talk focussed on need for awareness and prevention of ragging and to maintain discipline in the university. Prof. Malik highlighted the importance of fearless environment for young and bright students.
Prof. Asad has experience of over 20 years in teaching law and has delivered over 400 talks on various national and international platforms including Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy, Officers/officials of Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and State Legislature Secretariats. Prof. Asad started the awareness session by defining ragging as stated by the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India and then proceeded to discuss a few cases of ragging in India that resulted in death. He highlighted the Hon'ble Supreme Court’s guidelines to be followed by the universities, colleges other educational institutions to curb ragging. He educated the students on the procedure to approach University’s Proctor office in case of some ragging issues and IPC provisions for registering FIRs. Prof. Asad responded to the quires from the students and faculties. Prof. Romana Ishrat made the student aware about the scientific temperament of Ramanujan Block.
Prof Rajan Patel, Director, CIRBSc delivered concluding remarks where he thanked the speaker and highlighted the importance of maintaining the discipline and encouraged students for friendly and positive environment in Centre and in University as well.
