Central Instrumentation Facility (CIF), Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) organized a one-day Virtual Seminar on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) on the occasion of National Science Day as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav on 28th February 2022. The major objectives of the IPR workshop was to disseminate information about benefits of IPR for boosting the economic development of the country, commercial gain, sharing technology, innovation and global best practices adopted by the user countries.
The virtual seminar was inaugurated and presided over by Padma Shri Prof. Najma Akhtar, Vice Chancellor, JMI. The Vice Chancellor has highly appreciated the initiative taken by the Centre to organize the event on such an important, much needed subject of IPR that is directly associated to the growth of the institution and the country, inspired all the faculty members to be friendly with IPR as well as appraised the efforts by the small group of staff associated to CIF.
She further emphasized on the need of the awareness about increasing the number of IPR for the university in the long run that will become the treasure and will help to establish the sustainable relation between the University and Industries as well as placement of students. It will also provide the opportunity for the research outcome in the form of new start up and entrepreneurship.
Keynote address was given by an extremely distinguished expert Ms. Shipra Misra who is Chief Executive Officer & MD of CKIC-DRIIV Delhi Research Implementation and Innovation program and serves as the Guest of Honour during the Inaugural Function.The eminent experts of the IPR subject Mr. Lalit Ambasta, CEO of Patent Wires, Mr. Susanta Das and Mr. Atiqullah, Assistant Controllers of Patents & Designs at Patent office Delhi, Govt. of India delivered lectures on IPR in academics, basic concepts and sources of IPR, including the procedure of filing the patents on research, innovation and technology.
Prof. Seemi Farhat Basir, Patron and Dean, Faculty of Natural Sciences presented the faculty remarks which were mainly associated on the importance of IPR and Prof. Zubaida Ansari, Chairperson & Professor In-charge CIF presented the welcoming and concluding remarks. Deputy Professor In-charge and Convener Prof. Tokeer Ahmad conducted the program, introduced dignitaries and delivered the formal vote of thank.A total of 653 participants including PG & PhD students and faculty members registered for the IPR workshop. All the lectures were very conscientiously attended by the participants which is reflected by continuous attendees of over 300 participants.
