The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), inaugurated the AICTE-sponsored ATAL Online One-Week Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Advancements and Applications of Sustainable Additive Manufacturing and Industry 4.0” on November 10, 2025. Scheduled from November 10 to 15, 2025, the FDP aims to provide a dynamic academic platform for faculty members, researchers, and industry professionals to explore the latest developments in sustainable additive manufacturing and Industry 4.0 technologies.
The inaugural session, held in online mode, was graced by Er. K. K. Pathak, Former Director, (DFTM) DRDO, as the Chief Guest, and Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar, JMI, as the Guest of Honour. Prof. Mohammad Sharif, Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, attended the event as the Special Guest, while Prof. Mohd Suhaib, Officiating Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, also addressed the gathering and shared his valuable insights.
In his address, Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi commended the Department of Mechanical Engineering for organizing a forward-looking and impactful programme. He emphasized that Faculty Development Programmes play a vital role in enhancing the quality of higher education by fostering collaboration, innovation, and research excellence. Highlighting the theme, he remarked, “Industry 4.0 technologies — including automation, robotics, IoT, and data analytics — are reshaping the global manufacturing landscape. When integrated with sustainable additive manufacturing, they hold immense potential to revolutionize industries by reducing waste, improving efficiency, and ensuring environmental responsibility.”
The event began with a warm welcome address by Dr. Tauseef Uddin Siddiqui, Coordinator of the FDP, followed by remarks from Dr. Mohd Javaid, Co-Coordinator. Dr. Siddiqui briefed the participants about the objectives of the programme and expressed gratitude to AICTE for its continued support in promoting technical education and research excellence.
The programme received an overwhelming response, with 147 participants from across India, including faculty members, research scholars, and professionals from academia and industry. The week-long FDP comprises 16 expert sessions to be delivered by distinguished speakers from leading academic institutions and industries. The first technical session was conducted by Prof. P. M. Pandey, IIT Delhi, a renowned expert in the field of additive manufacturing.
The dignitaries congratulated the Department of Mechanical Engineering for aligning the FDP with national priorities on sustainable development and technological innovation. They also appreciated the dedicated efforts of the coordinators, Dr. Tauseef Uddin Siddiqui and Dr. Mohd Javaid, for their commitment and seamless coordination in organizing the event.
The Department extended sincere gratitude to AICTE for its generous funding and support, and to Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mazhar Asif, and Registrar, Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, for their constant encouragement and leadership in promoting academic excellence. Special appreciation was also conveyed to Prof. Mohammad Sharif, Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, for his continuous motivation and guidance in ensuring the success of the programme.
