In accordance to the theme of World Oral Health Day - 2024 “A HAPPY MOUTH IS… A HAPPY BODY”, a lecture on “Gum Diseases: More than just a pain in the mouth” was delivered by Dr. Kirti Chawla, Professor, Periodontology, Faculty of Dentistry, JMI. She discussed about the correlation of periodontal diseases with various systemic conditions. She emphasized that periodontitis is a potential source of infection and has been considered as a risk factor for different cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine and reproductive conditions. It was highlighted that oral health hugely impacts general well-being of an individual and hence periodontal or gum diseases should not be considered as a separate condition of the body. Since periodontal diseases impact the systemic health, maintaining a good oral hygiene is very important to maintain optimal general health.
