Senior BJP leader Uma Bharti has strongly criticized the Madhya Pradesh government over the Indore water contamination tragedy, demanding “severe atonement” and punishment for all responsible officials. The crisis, caused by a pipeline leak near a toilet in Bhagirathpura locality, has affected over 1,400 residents with vomiting and diarrhea, while locals claim 15 deaths, including a six-month-old child, though officials report 4–10 fatalities.
Uma Bharti said the episode has “shamed and tarnished” the state and the government, urging an apology to victims and maximum punishment “from bottom to top.” In response, CM Mohan Yadav ordered disciplinary action against top Indore Municipal Corporation officials, including the immediate transfer of an Additional Commissioner, highlighting the government’s attempt to contain public outrage.
