June 26: India has stepped up efforts to expand exports of its world-famous mangoes to Iceland, with the Indian Embassy in Reykjavik and the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) jointly organizing the country's first-ever Indian Mango Promotion Programme on June 24-25, 2026.
Held in Reykjavik and Akureyri, the event showcased premium Indian mango varieties including Dasheri, Chausa, Langra and Kesar, highlighting India's rich horticultural diversity and export potential.
India's Ambassador to Iceland, R. Ravindra, emphasized the global reputation of Indian mangoes and the opportunities to strengthen exports to Iceland. Icelandic officials also highlighted the potential benefits of the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) in boosting imports of Indian agricultural products.
According to APEDA, India is the world's largest producer of mangoes and is actively promoting exports through quality assurance, improved market access and international outreach initiatives.
The promotion comes as Iceland imported mangoes worth around $3.3 million in 2025, with nearly $1 million worth sourced from Thailand. Currently, Iceland primarily imports mangoes from Thailand, Brazil, Cambodia, Ghana and Peru, leaving significant room for India to expand its presence in the market.
The event attracted importers, diplomats, business representatives and Icelandic government officials, with attendees praising the taste, aroma and quality of Indian mangoes. Local consumer feedback indicated strong demand for mangoes, particularly for use in smoothies, desserts and fruit salads, underscoring the growing export opportunity for Indian growers.
