Nuh, Haryana: In a major anti-corruption revelation, the Haryana Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) uncovered a ₹1.25 crore bribery network to facilitate illegal road construction and mining in Firozpur Jhirka.
Mohammad Hanif, former sarpanch of Basai Mev village, admitted during questioning that he, along with three accomplices, manipulated land records and built two illegal routes connecting Basai Mev to Chhapra and Nangla in Rajasthan. These shortcuts cut transport distances from 40 km to just 1 km, benefiting mining mafias and royalty contractors.
Hanif allegedly paid bribes to several government officials, including over ₹32 lakh to the then SDM, and millions more to other revenue officers. Around 10 lakh rupees were kept personally. The scheme exploited the land consolidation process, sidelined villagers’ objections, and used heavy machinery to construct roads from mining waste.
The case came to light after the Supreme Court’s Central Empowered Committee flagged the illegal use of forest land, leading to the ACB filing the case on August 1, 2025. Multiple arrests and two charge sheets have already been made.
