War-torn Russia and Ukraine also marked the occasion with grand celebrations. In the UAE, the iconic Burj Khalifa dazzled with an impressive laser show and fireworks display.
In India, despite the winter chill, people embraced the new year with zeal. The celebrations began earlier in countries like China, Malaysia, Singapore, and New Zealand. In Japan, as per tradition, Buddhist temples rang bells 108 times to mark the arrival of the new year.
