Thousands of users reported problems accessing their accounts, refreshing feeds and using key platform features, triggering a sharp spike in outage reports on Downdetector.
India, one of Meta's largest markets, has an estimated 403 million Facebook users and 481 million Instagram users, meaning the outage had the potential to impact nearly 884 million social media accounts across the country.
According to Downdetector, reports of Facebook and Instagram outages surged within minutes as users complained of login failures, inaccessible feeds and app-related issues.

Facebook users, particularly on the desktop version, encountered the message:
"Account Temporarily Unavailable. Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes."
Instagram users reported:
