Dubai is set to transform into a global gaming and esports hub once again as the fifth edition of the Dubai Esports and Games Festival (DEF) takes place from May 8 to 24, featuring tournaments, industry forums and family-focused experiences across the city.
Organised by Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, part of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, the festival has witnessed rapid growth since its launch in 2022.
Last year’s edition drew over 45,000 fans, families and industry professionals across 12 major events, underscoring Dubai’s rising profile in the global gaming ecosystem.
The 2026 edition comes as the emirate accelerates efforts to expand its digital and creative economy. Key initiatives led by Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum through the Dubai Media Council aim to strengthen Dubai’s film and gaming industries.
The festival also aligns with the emirate’s long-term growth blueprint under the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which seeks to position Dubai among the world’s top three global cities.
Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, said the event has evolved into a key platform for the international gaming industry, supporting talent development, innovation and sector growth.
The flagship Game Expo will be held from May 22 to 24 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The expo will feature more than 100 gaming consoles, live esports competitions, and interactive zones tailored for gamers, students and families, reinforcing the city’s ambition to become a leading destination for esports and digital entertainment.
