The cryptocurrency market showed a modest recovery in early trading on September 16, 2026, after a sharp sell-off in the previous session. Bitcoin was trading at $75,943, up 0.45%, while Ethereum gained 0.43% to $2,408.80. Despite the daily rebound, both major cryptocurrencies remained lower over the past week, with Bitcoin down 2.91% and Ethereum down 2.36%.
The broader market remains under pressure from macroeconomic uncertainty and regulatory developments in the United States. Reuters reported that cryptocurrencies extended losses after the U.S. Senate failed to advance the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, while investors also remained cautious ahead of the Federal Reserve's policy decision.
Bitcoin, Ethereum remain below recent highs
Bitcoin's market capitalisation stood at approximately $1.52 trillion, while Ethereum's was around $379.61 billion. Both assets have nevertheless recorded substantial monthly gains, with Bitcoin up 17.81% and Ethereum up 25.95%.
Among other major cryptocurrencies, XRP rose 1.12% to $1.29852, while Solana gained 0.65% to $97.5009. Binance Coin increased 0.45% to $715.50 and Polkadot gained 1.05% to $0.95.
The weekly picture was considerably weaker. Cardano fell 7.73%, Polkadot declined 14.97%, Cosmos dropped 18.81%, and Algorand lost 11.45% over the week.
Uniswap leads monthly gains
Uniswap stood out among the cryptocurrencies tracked in the snapshot. It was trading at $6.34, down 0.41% on the day, but had gained 93.30% over the past month. Its year-to-date performance was also positive at 12.93%, although it remained down 33.56% year-on-year.
For Indian crypto investors, the global sell-off is also being reflected in rupee prices. ET Markets reported Bitcoin around ₹72.6 lakh and Ethereum around ₹2.30 lakh early Wednesday, with both showing significant daily declines.
