Jaipur, January 8, 2026: Ahead of Makar Sankranti, the State Government has issued orders imposing a complete ban on the sale, storage and use of Chinese manja made from nylon or synthetic materials, as well as kite strings coated with glass or metal powder, to ensure the safety of the public and birds and animals during kite flying.
Extending greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, Animal Husbandry and Gopalan Minister Shri Joraram Kumawat said that while Makar Sankranti is a traditional festival, celebrations should not come at the cost of injury or death of birds and animals. He stated that accidents and the painful deaths of animals and birds caused by Chinese manja are unacceptable under any circumstances.
The Minister appealed to the public to use only safe and alternative cotton threads for kite flying and to avoid flying kites during morning and evening hours, when bird movement is at its peak.
Dr. Samit Sharma, Secretary, Animal Husbandry Department, informed that in accordance with the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), all District Collectors and the Police Department have been directed to strictly enforce the ban and take stringent legal action against violators. Instructions have also been issued to set up special bird medical and rescue camps in all districts and to run extensive public awareness campaigns to prevent harm to birds and animals.
