Casual Gurus’ scraped through in a close-fought win beating ‘Icons’ by a breathtakingly narrow margin of 1 point to lift the 2nd Edition of the Qutab Golf League at the par-70 Qutab Golf Course here on Saturday. The winners tallied a total of 13 points in their singles and doubles matchplay games as against the second ranked team ‘Icons’ who managed 12 points.
In the Plate Championship, ‘Drive Squad’ emerged victorious with a razor-thin margin, securing the title with 301 Stableford points—just 1 point ahead of ‘Albatross’.
There was Rs 23 lacs in prize money for distribution to the top 4 winning teams and also the Winner of the Plate Championship. All team members also received attractive prizes. There were also a lot of exciting skills based Individual prizes each day.
In the Championship Final, last year’s runners-up Casual Gurus completed a remarkable journey to the top, claiming the QGL Season two title with a dominant total of 13 match-play points. Key contributors included Anmol Puri, Yuvrajbir Singh, Aryaveer Khoda, and Naina Kapoor, all securing emphatic wins worth 2 points each. The pairing of Arjun Verma and Karan Saigal also delivered a crucial 2-point win, sealing the championship.
Finishing closely behind with 12 points were ‘Icons’, securing the runner-up position. Their points came from match wins by the pairing of Anmol Handa and Keshav Sharma, alongside individual victories from Kanav Chauhan, Ritwik Jain, Vinay Anand, Pawan Saluja, and Gp. Capt. Sanjay Chauhan, each adding 2 points to the tally.
‘Ishum Eagles’ finished 3rd with 8 points, while the League’s only all-ladies team, ‘Charlie’s Angels’, secured 4th place with 3 points.
Standout performers for ‘Drive Squad’ included Rai Virender Singh Sodhi with 39 points, Dhruv Kapoor and Rohit Jhawar with 35 points each, Kapil Khanna and Retd. Col. I.S. Kohli with 31 points each, and Hridesh Rawal with 29 points. Close behind, ‘Albatross’ finished at 300 points, led by Rajat Kumar (36), Parth Chaudhary (35), Amit Dahiya and Rahil Aggarwal (34 each), with team owner Sandeep Bhatotia contributing 30 points. Following them were ‘Swinging Shers’ (294 points), ‘Ultimate Stix’ (282), ‘Metro Legends’ (270), and ‘Vox Spartans’ (234).
The Qutab Golf League 2025 was played in a Team Championship Format with 10 teams contesting. Each team comprised a minimum of 14 players and a maximum of 16 players. All in all, 160 players participated. Among those participating were leading golfers from the IGU (Indian Golf Union) Order of Merit including Kanav Chauhan, Keya Badugu, Zara Anand & Vinamra Anand (Team - Icons); Mehak Lohan (Team - Swinging Shers); Ayesha Gupta (Team - Ishum Eagles) and Yogya Bhalla (Charlie’s Angles).
The League was played over five match days - in a Round-Robin Format for the first four days and concluded with the Finals on the fifth match day. The Qutab Golf Course hosted the opening two rounds on November 7 and 14. The ITC Classic Golf Resort hosted the third round on November 21 while the Jaypee Greens Golf Resort staged the fourth round on November 26. The Grand Finale was held at the Qutab Golf Course on December 6, 2025.
A brainchild of Game of Life Sports (GOLS) promoted by Amit Kharbanda and Samant Sikka, QGL aims to create one of the most exciting and enjoyable Golf Leagues in India. To deliver on this objective, they have entered into a partnership with Digraj Golf Inc. (DGI) who have successfully curated and delivered other quality leagues in India.
The ten teams competing included: Charlie’s Angels; Swinging Shers; Icons; Ishum Eagles; Casual Gurus; Vox Spartans; Metro Legends; Albatross; Drive Squad and Ultimate Stix.
The League provided every category of golfer with an opportunity to compete and the mandatory guidelines for the formation of any team to ensure the Leagues inclusiveness are:
· Ladies: 2 players
· Juniors (Under 18): 1 player
· Govt/Armed Forces/Senior (60+) years: 1 player
· One player can satisfy multiple categories
The exciting Match play format was used for the Main Team Championship with the teams playing both Singles Matchplay games on the first two days and then doubles (Four ball better ball) for the next 2 days of the Round Robin Stage.
The 10 teams were divided into two groups of five teams each. The players played off 75 % of their original handicaps. For both the Singles and the Doubles Matchplay, the match result earned points that contributed to team totals.
The Final day witnessed two contests being run concurrently. The 4 Finalist teams competed for the ‘Main Championship Trophy’ while the remaining 6 teams played stableford event called the ‘Plate Championship’.
The Two organisers GOLS and DGI are ably guided in their vision and structuring by Apex Council members Wg Cdr Arun Singh, who is the President of the Golf Course Superintendents and Managers Association of India and also the EX DG of the Indian Golf Union, Champion Golfer and now a coach and administrator, Gaurav Ghei and Avnish Dass who is a specialist in Handicapping systems for Golf and a passionate golfer himself.
