What the rankings indicate
Market capitalisation reflects the market value of a cryptocurrency's circulating supply, whereas TVL measures the value of assets deposited in a DeFi protocol. The two metrics capture different aspects of the crypto ecosystem and should not be treated as interchangeable indicators.
The figures show that the largest cryptocurrencies by market value are not ranked using the same measure as DeFi protocols by TVL. They also illustrate that a protocol's TVL and its associated token's price can move in different directions.
