On the occasion of Army Day, the grand parade held on Mahal Road, Jaipur witnessed an enthralling display by the Rajasthan Tourism, Art and Culture Department, as the state’s tableau captivated spectators with its artistic depth and cultural richness.
The Rajasthan tableau beautifully represented the state’s glorious heritage alongside its modern tourism identity, offering a vivid glimpse of centuries-old architecture, traditional handicrafts, and globally acclaimed folk art forms. Amid chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and a wave of patriotic fervour, Rajasthan’s folk traditions received resounding applause from the audience.
Highlights of the Rajasthan Tableau
• Iconic Puppet Art at the Forefront
The front section of the tableau showcased Kathputli, one of Rajasthan’s most popular folk arts. A giant puppet, symbolising the collective spirit of Rajasthan’s arts and culture, led the tableau. Puppets animated by renowned artist Raju Bhat danced gracefully on his fingertips, drawing immense attention. The towering puppet appeared to welcome visitors, reflecting Rajasthan’s age-old tradition of hospitality.
• Crafts and Skills at the Core
The central portion of the tableau highlighted Rajasthan’s rich craftsmanship and skills.
– Molela terracotta sculptures, depicting religious and cultural motifs, were displayed live by artisans.
– Jaipur’s iconic Blue Pottery was prominently featured.
– Phad painting, a traditional storytelling art form, added narrative depth.
– Handicraft artisans were shown working in traditional attire, symbolising the resilience of Rajasthan’s cottage industries.
• Folk Dances in the Upper Section
The upper section came alive with vibrant performances of Phoolon Ki Holi dance from the Bharatpur region, along with the energetic Bam Rasिया folk dance, presented by skilled folk artists.
• Visual Grandeur Through Technology
In the background, a large LED screen screened a specially curated documentary by the Tourism, Art and Culture Department. The visuals showcased Rajasthan’s tourism landscape and the majestic architectural styles of its historic palaces, adding a contemporary dimension to the traditional tableau.
