Raipur, April 8, 2026: In a swift life-saving intervention, doctors at Mungeli District Hospital successfully removed a coin stuck in the food pipe of a three-year-old girl, preventing what could have turned into a major medical emergency.
According to Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Sheela Saha, the child, Himanshi Sahu from Kosamtara village in Mungeli block, accidentally swallowed a coin while playing. The coin got lodged in her esophagus, after which the family rushed her to the district hospital.
An X-ray confirmed the presence of the coin in the throat’s food passage, prompting immediate action by the medical team. Doctors then performed a successful endoscopic procedure and safely extracted the coin without delay.
Civil Surgeon Dr. M.K. Rai said the child is now completely safe and recovering well, thanks to timely medical assistance.
