Infidelity is a term that is usually associated with men, the reason being their outwardness and an acceptance in the society that is usually judgemental. Women on the other hand are reluctant and afraid to address their personal needs on a social platform. It is only in recent years that with the insurgence of the internet and the growth of the app market, a lot of people have found out ways to connect with the opposite gender. To observe this changing shift in the dating trend, Gleeden mapped the dating patterns of 20,000 of their women users for 2 months straight. This exercise began on 2nd March and ended on 30th April 2021 in which women profiles were observed from all the major cities in the country. The findings states that; Women are more thorough when it comes to building their profiles, meaning they complete it and update it regularly. On the other hand, they usually don’t use profile pics which are uploaded in their private albums instead they share it with selected contacts only.
Also, women hardly make the first move in India, rather they prefer to be contacted and then like to decide whether to answer it or not. But if they are intrigued, they tend to carry on the conversation for longer durations than men (their conversation length is 2.5x times longer than men). Women users mostly connect right before lunch (between 10.30 and 11.30) and at night, especially between 9.00 and 11.00 pm. They are also fast to put any undesired profile in their blacklists, unlike men that simply ignore those. The men: women ratio on Gleeden is 70:30 and for a country like India it’s quite an acceptance. Sharing her views on the same, Ms. Sybil Shiddell, Country Manager, India says; “Having a higher percentage of male subscribers is a common thing in the dating industry because men are usually more relaxed than women when it comes to putting themselves out there.
In our case the situation is even more delicate; let’s not forget that in Gleeden’s case, we speak to a very specific niche of daters who are looking for a very specific kind of date. Having a 30% of active female subscribers means that infidelity is no longer something that relates mostly to men”
Off late, Gleeden has also started receiving some positive traction from the Tier-2 cities in India. Names like Jaipur, Bhopal, Indore and Thiruvananthapuram are some surprise inclusions whereas Gurgaon and Chandigarh are the cities with the fastest growing user base. Gleeden also shared the list of the top 20 cities in which they are present; Bengaluru leads the table with 18% of user base, followed by Mumbai at 16% and Delhi at 15%. Kolkata is on the 4th spot with 12% of users whereas Pune and Hyderabad share the 5th & 6th spot with 5% each and Chennai and Gurgaon are at 7 & 8th positions with 4% of user base. Kochi and Chandigarh have the 9th & 10th spot between them with 3% each while Ahmedabad is at 11th with 1.7%, Jaipur at 12th with 1.5% and Noida is on the 13th spot with 1.3% users.
