The Rajasthan Legislative Assembly on Thursday passed the Factories (Rajasthan Amendment) Bill, 2025 by voice vote. Food and Civil Supplies Minister Shri Sumit Godara informed the House that the amendments to the Factories Act, 1948 will directly benefit workers, enhance women’s participation in the workforce, encourage investments, generate large-scale employment, and accelerate industrial development in the state.
Highlighting the key provisions, Shri Godara said that under the amendment, the maximum weekly working hours in factories have been increased, which will lead to higher production and productivity, while also creating new opportunities for investment and employment in Rajasthan. The provision related to continuous working hours has been made more flexible, allowing workers to dedicate the saved time to their families. Workers will now be able to work up to six hours continuously without a break and remain present in factories for up to 10 hours and 30 minutes a day. Additionally, the overtime limit has been increased from 75 hours to 144 hours per quarter, which will bring multiple benefits to workers, including those migrating from other states.
He further stated that women workers will now be able to work at night with their written consent, thereby expanding opportunities for their participation in the workforce and paving the way for greater women’s empowerment.
Shri Godara added that the amendments to the Factories Act, 1948 were made in line with the suggestions received during consultations with workers’ organizations held in June 2025. He emphasized that the Bill will promote healthy competition and foster economic growth in the state.
