In a surprise announcement, Indian cricket star Virat Kohli declared his retirement from Twenty20 Internationals after leading his team to victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
"This was the perfect way to end my T20 career," Kohli said. "Winning the World Cup is what we've all been working towards. There were ups and downs, but we came together when it mattered most. This was always going to be my last T20 World Cup, and I'm leaving it all on the field."
Kohli acknowledged the burden of expectation. "It's been a long wait for India to win a major ICC trophy," he said. "Look at Rohit, he's played in nearly twice the number of World Cups as me. He truly deserves this win."
The veteran batsman also emphasized the importance of giving younger players a chance. "It's time to pass the torch to the next generation," Kohli said. "T20 cricket is a young man's game, and I've had a fantastic run. I'm sure these youngsters will take Indian cricket to even greater heights."
