Amid efforts under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to establish Uttar Pradesh as a major centre for industrial development, investment, and exports, the state’s exports to BRICS and its partner countries are highlighting its economic strength.
According to the available export profile, Uttar Pradesh has exported goods worth a total of ₹47,484 crore to BRICS member countries and partner countries. This accounts for 23.7 percent of the state’s total exports of approximately ₹2 lakh crore. This includes exports worth ₹34,811 crore to BRICS member countries and ₹12,673 crore to partner countries.
The BRICS Summit being held in New Delhi under India’s presidency is providing an opportunity to give new direction to cooperation, trade, and economic partnership among the world’s leading emerging economies. At such a time, the markets of BRICS countries hold special significance for Uttar Pradesh, as these countries have large populations, rising consumer demand, and extensive requirements for industrial products.
Uttar Pradesh is already exporting food products, electrical equipment, machinery, garments, jewellery, leather goods, and other industrial products. Expanding trade relations with BRICS and partner countries can open new opportunities for small, medium, and large enterprises in the state.
The BRICS group currently comprises 11 member countries. These include Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia. In addition, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam are included as partner countries. The presence of Uttar Pradesh’s products in these countries reflects the state’s export potential and industrial diversity. It also demonstrates that exporters from Uttar Pradesh are not dependent solely on traditional markets but are also establishing themselves in emerging markets across Asia, Africa, West Asia, and Latin America.
Among BRICS member countries, the United Arab Emirates is Uttar Pradesh’s largest export market. The state exported goods worth ₹15,133 crore to the UAE, accounting for 43.5 percent of total exports to BRICS member countries. This was followed by exports of ₹4,938 crore to Saudi Arabia, ₹3,848 crore to Egypt, ₹2,670 crore to Indonesia, ₹2,497 crore to China, ₹2,209 crore to Brazil, ₹1,690 crore to South Africa, ₹1,584 crore to Russia, ₹131 crore to Iran, and ₹110 crore to Ethiopia. Markets such as the UAE and Saudi Arabia are important for Uttar Pradesh’s food, agriculture-based, and industrial products. At the same time, large markets such as China, Russia, Brazil, and South Africa strengthen the prospects for expanding exports of machinery, electrical equipment, textiles, and other products from the state.
Among BRICS partner countries, Vietnam and Malaysia are major export markets for Uttar Pradesh. Exports from the state to Vietnam stood at ₹5,949 crore, accounting for 46.9 percent of total exports to partner countries. Exports to Malaysia amounted to ₹3,740 crore, representing a share of 29.5 percent.
