
Two day National Awareness Webinar on National Education Policy 2020 starts at JMI

A two-day (9th-10th March, 2022)National Awareness Webinar on the “National Education Policy 2020: Roadmap for Transformative Reforms and Societal Change “ organised by the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre (UGC-HRDC), Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) began today. Over the next two days, eminent expert speakers from different domain expertise will interact with the participants on different aspects of NEP. The objective of the webinar is to spread awareness towards transformative reforms and societal change that the NEP2020 envisage.Dr. Sajjad Ahmad, Assistant Professor, Department of Educational Studies coordinated the programme. He outlined the overview of the programme and the engagement of participants for the next two days.Inaugural session started with a welcome address by Prof. Anisur Rahman, Director, UGC- HRDC, JMI.
He said that the considering the overwhelming response for the programme he had to shift the online platform from Google meet to Webex. More than 170 participants attended the inaugural session.Dr. Archana Thakur, Joint Secretary, University Grant Commission (UGC) was the Chief Guest of the session. Key note address was presented by Prof. G.D. Sharma, Former Secretary of UGC, whereas, Prof. Ilyas Husain, former Pro-Vice Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia chaired the inaugural session.
Dr. Archana Thakur highlighted various initiatives taken up by the UGC in order to implement the NEP 2020. She highlighted about various guidelines prepared by the UGC for implementing the NEP 2020 and advised all the learned participants to go through the document and give suggestions where ever possible for improving the document. She said that it is high time for the faculty to become pro-active in implementing the NEP2020.
Prof. G.D. Sharma, focussing upon the practicality, underlined the significance of the webinar and said that the programme is being organized at the juncture when the implementation of NEP 2020 is rolling out throughout the country. He said that implementation of NEP 2020 is the responsibility of the entire teachers’ fraternity which will collectively make it a success. He further emphasized that the NEP 2020 is unique in the sense that it tries to re-structure the entire educational system from School Education to Higher Education focussing upon the multidisciplinarity of the courses and bringing out integrated course structure with focus upon learning outcome.
