After the pandemic hit the country, Unlock 4 guidelines relaxation on tourism front has been granted by the Central and State Government for traveling to various cities like Rishikesh, Nainital or Udaipur. Central Government’s Ministry of Tourism in India launched a “Look Apna Desh” webinar campaign to offer tourism to people on their mobiles and systems to maintain and engage people in travel during the complete lockdown.
India’s GDP is projected to increase from US $ 234.03 billion in 2017 to US $ 492.21 billion in 2028, by the contribution from the travel and tourism sector, according to industry reports.
Before COVID-19 in 2019, 4.2 crore jobs were produced in the tourism sector in India, which was 8.1 percent of the over-all employment in the country. Also the sector received collective foreign direct investment of US $ 15.28 billion amid April 2000 and March 2020.
As experts say, the domestic market for tourism and hospitality is increasing the market for the world and India, where differently abled students can grab the new emerging opportunity by taking skill development trainings and career options through job counselling, setting up start-ups with the help of State Government. Due to Covid-19, the industry faced economic slowdown and continued recovery by finding technical solutions to win confidence in travel for Indians and foreigners.
Differently-abled individual empowerment through the tourism and hospitality sector can impact responsible companies with an integrated approach to address social, economic, and gainful employment. It also offers an opportunity for these differently abled candidates to explore a whole new world beyond boundaries.
Since India’s independence, the question of quality education for differently abled has always been a focal point of debate. According to the census report, 1.7 percent of the total child population is followed differently abled in India.
Following the implementation of New Education Policy (NEP) for the betterment of the differently abled an initiative has been taken for inclusive education, more holistic, competent faculty with better and advanced solutions. However, Covid-19 posed a straight question with fellow students for classroom study. The travel and hospitality sector is sure to offer more options that would enable the differently abled candidates to take up opportunities that would offer exposure not just in their own country but in countries globally.
BSc Airlines, Tourism and Hospitality– Science is very popular in rural India for Biology and Mathematics but B.Sc. in Airline, Tourism and Hospitality Management is also part of the stream. Which is a 3-year full-time course. This graduate course can be opted by the passed 10 + 2 with minimum 50% from Science stream.
B.Voc in Hotel Management – Challenging roles lead to better exposure. B.Voc in Hotel Management is a 3 year job-oriented vocational training program. The program imparts skills and knowledge related to hotel management. Minimum qualification is 12th from any stream (Arts, Science or Commerce). Selection process is through merit and qualifying the exam of a college. There could be a personal round of interview.
B.Com in Travel and Tourism Management – It is an UG program of 3 years. Some colleges might prefer Commerce stream students, however the program is open to students from any stream. Job roles that can be explored would be to become a Tourism Trainer, Travel Executive, Regional Manager, Travel Content Writer, etc.
MBA in Tourism Management– This is a 2 year PG degree program. The entry is through any entrance examination in a college. One can have a qualified 12th certificate from a recognised college and from any stream. The graduates of MBA in Tourism Management generally work in Hotels, Hospitality Industry, International or national food chains, catering industry etc.
Masters in Tourism Administration– Masters of Tourism Administration (MTA) is a PG course that focuses on areas such as travel, administration, hospitality and aviation management. This course is often also offered as a 5-year integrated course post which a candidate is awarded an MTA degree. This program is either full-time or can be pursued through distance learning. Entrance tests conducted by individual colleges or direct admissions also possible. It is a 2 year program.
