
The State Election Commission has announced the schedule for the by-elections in the Panchayati Raj Institutions till 31st July 2022 on the vacant posts due to various reasons.
Chief Electoral Officer and Secretary Smt. Chitra Gupta informed that the posts of 14 Panchayat Samiti members, 35 Sarpanch and 465 Panch including one Up Pradhan and 47 Up Sarpanches are vacant in the state. He said that the elections of Sarpanches and Panchayat Samiti members would be conducted through EVMs and by-elections of Ward Panches would be done through ballot boxes. With the issuance of the order, the code of conduct has come into force in the respective constituencies by announcing the by-election schedule.
Mrs Gupta informed that the District Election Officer will issue a notification on November 10, 2022, for the by-elections of Panchayat Samiti members. Nomination papers will be submitted on November 14, 2022 from 11 am to 3 pm. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on November 15, 2022 at 11 am. On November 16, 2022, the nominations will be withdrawn by 3 pm and after that the allotment of election symbols and the list of contesting candidates will be published. He informed that the voting process will continue on November 25, 2022 from 8 am to 5 pm. After this, counting of votes will be done on 27th November 2022 at 9 am at Panchayat Samiti Headquarters.
Similarly, the meeting will start on 28 November 2022 at 10 am for the by-election for the post of Deputy President. The nomination papers will be presented on the same day till 11 am. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be done from 11.30 am. The process of withdrawal of nominations will be done by 1 pm and after that allotment of election symbols and list of contesting candidates will be prepared. He said that if necessary, the voting process would be held on the same day from 3 am to 5 pm and counting of votes and declaration of election results would be done from 5 pm.
The Chief Electoral Officer said that on November 17, 2022, the District Election Officer will issue a public notice for the by-elections of Sarpanch and Panches. Nomination papers will be submitted on 19th November 2022 from 10 am to 5 pm. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on November 20, 2022 from 10 AM onwards. The nomination process will be done by November 20, 2022 at 3 pm. After this the allotment of election symbols and the list of contesting candidates will be published. The voting process will continue from 8 am to 5 pm on 25 November 2022. After the poll is over, the counting of votes and results will be declared at the Panchayat Headquarters.
Similarly, notices will be issued for the up-sarpanch election on November 26, 2022, before 9 am. The meeting will start at 10 am. The nomination papers (proposals) will be presented on the same day till 11 am. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be done from 11.30 am. From 11.30 am to 12 noon, the list of contesting candidates will be prepared and allotment of election symbols will be done. He said that if necessary, polling would be held from 12 noon to 1 pm and after that the counting of votes and declaration of results would be done.
