Prakash Javadekar inaugurated the 10th Jagran Film Festival at an event held at Siri Fort Auditorium on July 18.
Addressing the gathering, the minister spoke about the recent Steering Committee meeting held in Goa for the Golden Jubilee edition of the International Film Festival of India and invited the dignitaries present at the event to participate in the festival.
Highlighting the significance of cinema, Javadekar described films as a powerful medium that connects people and influences society. He also recalled the historical evolution of Indian cinema and emphasised its growing role as an instrument of India’s soft power globally.
The minister further outlined recent initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to promote India as a preferred filming destination. He referred to efforts aimed at improving ease of filming through the single-window clearance mechanism established by the Film Facilitation Office.
Javadekar also spoke about proposed additions to the National Museum of Indian Cinema, which was inaugurated earlier in the year by Narendra Modi.
Stating that cinema is “people’s medium,” the minister said the Information & Broadcasting Ministry remains committed to creating a conducive environment for the growth and development of the film industry in the country.
