The Maharashtra government today signed a major agreement with Hyderabad-based Megha Engineering & Infrastructure Limited (MEIL). Under this agreement, the company will construct two pump storage projects with a total capacity of 4000 MW (2x2000 MW) in Maharashtra. The key feature of this plan is that pump storage projects can be established at the lowest cost. The primary purpose of these projects is grid management and frequency regulation.
An investment of approximately ₹21,100 crore will be made for both pump storage projects, and around 2,500 people will gain employment. The projects will be known as the Kamod Pump Storage Project in Nandurbar district and the Ghosla Pump Storage Project in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. According to the plan, MEIL will complete the Ghosla PSP in three and a half years, while the Kamod PSP will be built in five years.
