New Delhi, September 17: The Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management (DTHM) at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) will be enthusiastically celebrating World Tourism Day on September 27, 2024, with the global theme, “Tourism and Peace.” This year, the event is proudly supported by Indian Tourism (North), Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. The department has planned a series of engaging events to mark the occasion, focusing on the role of tourism in fostering peace and harmony.
The day will feature three key events:
1. Tourism Round Table: Faculty from various departments and centres across the university are invited to participate in a round table discussion on “Peace through Tourism.” The session will address the challenges the world faces today and explore how tourism can contribute to peace at individual, societal, environmental, and international levels.
2. Jamia Biryani League: A friendly culinary fiesta where teachers from different departments will showcase their cooking skills by preparing regional biryanis. This event celebrates Jamia’s diverse community and offers a delicious opportunity for cultural exchange. Teams will cook their biryanis in the department’s training kitchen, competing for culinary glory.
3. Lenses of Life - Photography Competition: Students are invited to capture the essence of the day through their lenses. The competition will focus on two themes: “Tourism and Peace” and “Culinary Colours.” This event encourages students to creatively document the celebration of peace and diversity at JMI.
These events represent the department’s effort to celebrate and promote peace and harmony through the lens of tourism. The celebrations will be conducted under the aegis of the Yuva Tourism Club of the Department, “Mezbaan-E-Sayyah,” with support from Indian Tourism (North), Ministry of Tourism, Government of India.
