Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Basic Science(CIRBSc), Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) today organised a one-day online symposium on Biophysics titled ‘Biophysika-5’, which is the fifth consecutive in the series. Amid COVID-19, it has been organized as Virtual Symposium wherein over 200 participants attended.Since the inception of MSc. Biophysics program, it has been a practice at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Basic Science to organize one-day event on Biophysics by students of Biophysics.
Prof. Seemi Farhat Bashir, Dean, Faculty of Natural Sciences, JMI addressed the participants and briefly revealed them with the University credentials and achievement. She emphasized the importance and need of such events to inculcate the students’ interest towards interdisciplinary studies.Dr. Rajan Patel, was the convener of the program and Prof. Z.A. Ansari Director, CIRBSc was the chairperson of the event.
Dr. N. R. Jagannathan, Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute, Kelambakkam, Tamilnadu delivered keynote address on “Molecules to Human: Role of NMR”. The plenary speaker of the program was Dr. Elke Hebisch from Lund University, Sweden spoke on Nanostraw – Assisted Injection of Fluorescent Nanodiamonds into Living Cells.The other speakers were Prof. B M Jaffar Ali from Pondicherry University, Pondicherry, Prof Sudha Srivastava from JIIT, Noida, Dr Bidisha Sinha from IISER, Kolkata covered the wide range of Biophysical aspects/topics.
Apart from the keynote, plenary and invited talks, online poster session was held wherein 30 posters were presented by the students across the globe. In two parallel session held for students 30 oral presentations were been made for 10 min each. Both, the poster and oral presentations were evaluated and four best posters and four best oral presentations were awarded.At the concluding session, Director, CIRBSc, expressed her heartful thanks to the Vice-Chancellor, JMI, Prof. Najma Akhtar, in absentia.
She appreciated that despite being physically away from the program, the Vice Chancellor has been a constant source of motivation and guidance for everyone especially when it comes to students’ event.Director, CIRBSc, congratulated all the M. Sc. Biophysics students for organizing and on the successful completion of the Annual event Biophysika and wished that such events will continue taking place every year in all formal and informal spaces.
