Mumbai and its suburbs are experiencing incessant rainfall since early morning today. The city and its adjoining areas also experienced light to heavy rainfall yesterday. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued orange warning for Mumbai and some parts of Maharashtra, saying there is possibility of heavy to very heavy rain today.
Meanwhile, water logging was reported from several low-lying areas of the city affecting vehicular traffic. Suburban local trains on all the three lines, including the Central, Western and Harbour line, are running 20 to 30 minutes behind the schedule.
On Western line, as water level reached above 12 c.m. on tracks at Nala Sopara station on up fast line, few long distance trains were held up on Palghar, Safale and Vaitarna stations while suburban trains are running at restricted speed. Train movement towards Konkan was also affected in the morning due to mud and landslide between Nagothane and Roha due to heavy rains. Up line has been restored while work on down line is in progress. Raigad district has been experiencing heavy rainfall since three days affecting normal life.
Savitri, Amba and Kundalika rivers have crossed danger mark leading to flood like situation in Mahad, Nagothane and Roha towns. Heavy rain has also primarily affected vehicular traffic movement in the district. The District Administration has issued to people due to heavy rainfall warning for the next 72 hours in the district.
Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has requested Mumbaikars to avoid venturing near the sea or walking in water logged areas.
High tide warning has been issued for 3.27 p.m. in the afternoon. Other parts of Maharashtra such as Pune, Akola and Satara also witnessed heavy rainfall. Due to heavy rain in Satara since last night, water from Koyna dam was released in the river this morning.
