The Government of India officially launched its indigenous Cell Broadcast System today, marking a significant milestone in the nation's disaster management capabilities. Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia announced the activation of the system, which is designed to deliver instantaneous emergency alerts to mobile devices across the country.
To test the operational efficiency of the system, a nationwide trial was conducted around noon today. Millions of citizens received a notification on their mobile phones accompanied by a distinct siren-like alert. The message, displayed in both English and regional languages, clarified that it was a test and required no action from the public. Scindia stated that this new mobile-based disaster communication system will allow authorities to send location-specific warnings during emergencies such as floods, earthquakes, or security threats without being hampered by network congestion. The technology was developed locally to ensure data sovereignty and rapid response times, reflecting India’s "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" initiative in the telecommunications sector.
