As the citizens stay confined to homes, thousands of birds, cows, and stray animals stare into starvation, these were habitual to the feed and leftovers of the public that now becomes unavailable. The plight, however, drew the attention of former attorney general of Rajasthan, Girdhari Singh Baphana who inspired by the appeal of Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot stepped forth and coordinated with the government, trade bodies and other non-government for the rescue of these speechless beings. Thanks to their effort more than 200 kilograms of bird feed is being dispersed at several locations in the state.
Most affected from the lockdown are the pigeons that are almost habitual to depend on feed provided by tourists, on Tuesday feed was dispersed for them at Amber, Ajmeri Gate, Rambagh crossroad, Railway flyover at Malviya Nagar, Statue Circle, and several other locations where visitors usually come to feed birds. Along with bird feed, fodder for cows and food for other animals is also being arranged by the collective efforts coordinated by GS Bafana.
“The chief minister has made a Nobel appeal for the betterment of all living beings, and while he takes care of citizens more of us should step forth to care for these birds and animals,” says GS Bafana.
Among those to have come onboard his relief drive is the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) which is also helping out the hungry people along with provisioning feed for birds, fodder for cows. CII is also distributing food packets for nearly 200 needy people each day. The efforts have also drawn support from the Khadi board of Rajasthan.
“Many organisations and individuals responding to the chief minister’s appeal are now joining the campaign to help out fellow citizens and save birds and animals. Over the past three days more than 700 kg of bird feed has been disbursed in the state,” said additional chief secretary Industries, Subodh Agarwal.
It has been the cooperation of vigilant citizens like Baphana and his associates that has to reduce hardships of people and other living beings of the state as it stands in lockdown to prevent the COVID infection
