New Delhi/Mumbai, April 12: Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle passed away on Sunday at the age of 92, bringing the curtains down on one of the most extraordinary chapters in Indian music history. She breathed her last at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, where she had been admitted after suffering extreme exhaustion and a chest infection.
Doctors at the hospital confirmed that the veteran singer died due to multiple-organ failure, shortly after her condition worsened on Sunday afternoon. Her son, Anand Bhosle, confirmed the news and shared details of the final rites.
According to the family, admirers and members of the public can pay their last respects from 11 am on Monday at Casa Grande, Lower Parel, while the last rites will be performed at 4 pm at Shivaji Park, Mumbai.
Asha Bhosle’s granddaughter Zanai Bhosle had earlier informed fans that the singer had been hospitalised due to “extreme exhaustion” and a chest infection, requesting privacy for the family as treatment was underway.
With a career spanning over eight decades, Asha Bhosle recorded more than 12,000 songs across multiple Indian languages, creating immortal classics across film music, ghazals, pop, folk, and devotional genres. Songs like Piya Tu Ab To Aaja, Dum Maro Dum, Chura Liya Hai Tumne, and In Aankhon Ki Masti remain woven into India’s cultural memory.
