The Doctors Premier Cricket League (DPCL) Season 1 concluded in spectacular fashion, bringing together Mumbai's top medical professionals in a thrilling display of sportsmanship, fitness, and camaraderie. An initiative by Doctors Sports Club under the guidance of Dr. Ali Irani, India's first physiotherapist for the national cricket team, the league aimed to foster teamwork, fitness, and recreation among the city's leading doctors.
The grand finale, held at the prestigious Mumbai Police Gymkhana, Marine Drive, witnessed an intense showdown between Criticare Asia Hospital and Hinduja Hospital, with Criticare Asia Hospital emerging victorious. The tournament not only underscored the importance of an active lifestyle for medical professionals but also reinforced the values of teamwork and perseverance.
"Doctors spend their lives caring for others, but their own fitness and recreation are equally essential. DPCL is not just about cricket—it's the beginning of a larger movement to promote a healthier lifestyle among the medical community through sports," said Dr. Ali Irani, the driving force behind the league.
Adding to the excitement, comedian Inder Sahani brought his signature humor to the event as the official commentator, keeping the crowd entertained throughout the matches.
The event was graced by some of the biggest names in sports, entertainment, and business, including, Dilip Vengsarkar – former Indian Cricket captain, Diana Edulji – Former captain of the Indian Women's Cricket Team,Ajinkya Naik – President of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), Actor Ali Asgar, Arjun Firoz Khan, Guneet Singh Walia (Bunty Walia)
"It's incredible to see doctors, our real-life heroes, competing with such passion and sportsmanship. Cricket unites people, and this tournament is a fantastic initiative," said Dilip Vengsarkar.
With overwhelming participation from hospitals and doctors, DPCL Season 1 marks just the beginning of a much larger sporting initiative by Doctors Sports Club.
