After inspiring thousands to join in cleaning India’s forests—removing over 8,000 tons of waste, the equivalent of 800 truckloads—filmmaker and social reformer Sarthi Gupta has now taken a powerful step toward social awareness through the art of music. His latest project, “Noor,” is a music video centered on “Kashmir Ghar Vapsi”, the return of displaced Kashmiri Pandits to their homeland. The video, released by T-Series, features the efforts and participation of over 500 Kashmiris and Himachalis.
Sarthi Gupta, already renowned for his contribution to society through environmental activism, holds a world record under the Swachh Bharat Mission, and was featured in the Limca Book of Records 2019. He was also recognized by the United Nations and praised by the Government of India for mobilizing Mumbai citizens to clean 85 hectares of forest, setting a global benchmark for community-led environmental efforts.
With “Noor,” Gupta shifts the spotlight to the socio-political narrative of the Kashmiri Pandits, aiming to highlight the trauma and resilience of those who were forced to flee their homes. The video is not just a creative endeavor—it is a call for unity and awareness. Speaking about the project, Gupta emphasized, “More than 500 Kashmiris and Himachalis are part of this project. We want to send a message that no matter the religion, our Indian identity comes first.”
Featuring lead singer Ahmed Shaad Safwi and supported by artists from across communities, the project underscores communal harmony and solidarity. “We stand with Kashmir and are united for Kashmir,” Gupta declared, thanking T-Series and the people of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand for their support.
Reflecting on the historical trauma, Gupta recalled, “The day when Indians were homeless within our own homeland, when human rights vanished, and people lived in fear on their own soil—that night, January 21, 1990, was darker than 200 years of colonial rule.”
Through “Noor,” Gupta aims to not only commemorate the past but to ignite hope for a future where justice prevails and displaced families find their way home.
