New Delhi:
The X account of the viral satirical movement Cockroach Janta Party was withheld in India on Thursday, just hours after the group overtook Bharatiya Janata Party’s official Instagram account in follower count.
The development was confirmed by CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, who shared a screenshot indicating that the account had been blocked in India. Reacting to the move, Dipke posted, “As expected, Cockroach Janta Party's account has been withheld in India.”
CJP Emerges as Viral Gen Z Political Meme Movement
The account restriction came amid the rapid rise of the Cockroach Janta Party across social media platforms, especially among younger users.
The movement recently crossed:
- 10 million followers on Instagram,
surpassing the BJP’s official Instagram handle, which currently has around:
- 8.7 million followers.
Among major political parties:
- Indian National Congress remains ahead with more than 13 million Instagram followers,
- while Aam Aadmi Party trails significantly behind.
Satire, Memes and Youth Frustration Fuel Online Momentum
What started as an internet satire campaign has quickly evolved into a broader meme-driven youth movement focused on issues such as:
- unemployment,
- exam paper leaks,
- institutional accountability,
- and frustration with mainstream political discourse.
The group describes itself as:
“A political front of the youth, by the youth, for the youth”
and uses the slogan:
“Secular, Socialist, Democratic, Lazy.”
Its unconventional branding, meme-heavy communication style, and sharp online humour have helped it gain massive traction within days.
Origin Linked to Courtroom Remark
According to reports, the name “Cockroach Janta Party” emerged as a satirical response to controversial remarks allegedly made by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant during a court hearing last week.
