Modi Oath Ceremony LIVE:
After the victory of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the 18th Lok Sabha elections, BJP leader Narendra Modi took the oath as the Prime Minister of India for the third consecutive time. President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office and secrecy to him at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. With this, Modi equaled the record of becoming the Prime Minister for three consecutive terms, previously held by Jawaharlal Nehru. Modi first became the Prime Minister in 2014 after the BJP's victory in the Lok Sabha elections. Following a landslide victory in the 17th Lok Sabha elections, he became the Prime Minister for the second time.
Nehru, who served from 1947 post-independence, is the longest-serving Prime Minister of India. He remained the Prime Minister until his death on May 27, 1964. Nehru was first elected Prime Minister after winning the first general elections in 1952. Subsequently, the Congress party won the general elections in 1957 and 1962, and Nehru continued as the Prime Minister. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP did not achieve an absolute majority, securing 240 seats. However, the BJP-led NDA crossed the majority mark with a total of 293 seats. Following this, Modi was chosen as the leader of the BJP and NDA parliamentary party in a recent meeting of the alliance.
